What to do with those large bathroom windows?

What to do with those large bathroom windows?

Having natural light in smaller spaces helps brighten the small areas up and makes them feel larger.  The most common situation where windows help with this is bathrooms.  What an awesome modern day idea…right?  Well, you probably thought so when you bought your home.  A nice large window over the tub or in the shower to help brighten up the space.  Until you’re standing in your shower wondering if the neighbors can see you, or doing your make-up in the mirror only to see the ugly reflection of your neighbors exterior siding of their home through the garden tub window.

Solving the Boring Windows Dilemma

Bathroom Stained GlassYou can always take the easy route (or what you might think is the easy route) and put blinds in your window.  Only to defeat the purpose of having a window to provide natural light in your home.  In addition, who actually likes to clean blinds?  So now you’re stuck with a large window, dirty blinds, and no natural light.  Aren’t you glad you paid for that nice bathroom window only to cover it up?  At Fort Worth Stained Glass, we have solutions to all of these dilemmas.

Now more than ever, many new construction homes come with large 36”+ square and arched windows and homeowners are left with the challenge of how to cover them up.  More and more, home owners are considering stained glass windows for their bathrooms.  They are the perfect match for situations where natural light is important, but keeping your fanny hidden from the neighbor’s eye is more important.  The common criticism people give for stained glass is, “isn’t it traditional looking” or “I don’t want colored glass to compete with my room décor”.  No worries there either.

Stained Glass for Modern Homes

The majority of the stained glass windows/leaded glass windows being built these days consist of a series of clear textured glass.  The texture in the glass provides the privacy by distorting the image, and “clear” doesn’t compete with any color scheme.  The great thing about stained glass is the options are endless.  Whether you want a specific design like a bird sitting on a branch, or a geometric pattern in a contemporary look, it can be accomplished.

Another positive in considering stained glass/leaded glass panels is that it can be sealed in between two panes of glass.  When this install method is used, it basically sandwiches the stained glass panel between two clear panes of glass in your existing window.  When this method is used, you cannot physically touch the stained glass panel on either the exterior of the home and the interior of the home.  Now isn’t cleaning a flat piece of glass, easier than cleaning a set of blinds?
