Fort Worth Stained Glass Remodeling & Renovation Process

It’s well known that stained glass is one of the most durable forms of art. In fact, some of the world’s oldest stained glass windows have been around since the 10th century. But that doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been any upkeep involved. Over time, stained glass can suffer wear or deterioration and may eventually require stained glass remodeling or renovation. If your Fort Worth home or business has antique or aging stained glass windows, it’s important to keep a look out for signs of deterioration and address any noticeable issues as soon as possible.

Common Signs of Deterioration

Damage or deterioration may occur to stained glass for a variety of reasons. Dirt, soot, and grime can build up on the glass itself and cause it to lose its color or shine. In addition, heat, humidity, and weather can cause the leading to fail, which puts strain on the glass, causing it to crack. If your windows look like they may be showing signs of deterioration, it’s best to consult a professional stained glass studio as soon as possible.

Fort Worth Stained Glass Remodeling & Renovation

At Fort Worth Stained Glass, we have a very precise process for completing stained glass remodeling and renovation projects. We handle all panels with a high level of care and expertise. Our method usually follows the steps outlined below.

Removal: The panel is removed from its placement and brought to our workshop. Temporary glass is installed in the meantime.

Cleaning: The stained glass is soaked in a bath of cleansing solution for up to two weeks. This helps to restore its color and shine and also makes the renovation process easier.

Disassembly: The panel is carefully taken apart one piece at a time.

Replacement: All glass that is badly broken is replaced using our stock inventory.

Reassembly: The panel is pieced back together. New leading and cementing are used to hold the glass in place.

Installation: The stained glass is brought back to the original site where it is reinstalled. Then, a piece of low-e safety glass is secured on top of the panel for added protection.
